The opportunity in the routine...
Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.- Romans 15:7 Dear SFBA, Most of us are impacted by the rhythms of our communities. Even if you do not have kids at home, the back-to-school season always brings a slower traffic rhythm, turning that ten-minute commute into twenty-five. But in a few weeks, everything will calm down and people will get into a rhythm, and your commute will be back to its average of seventeen minutes...still not ten, but at least now you are used to it. These rhythms announce a change in season, which brings amazing ministry opportunities. Many churches usher in this new season by restarting midweek and/or Sunday night ministries or small group Bible studies. Many of our kids and youth are promoted to the next ministry level. Sometimes, pastors will start a new sermon series to kick off this new season of ministry. There is an energy that comes with this new rhythm; this is the opportunity for us- INVITATION SEASON! As fall programming begins, we have a great opportunity to invite our unchurched friends, neighbors, and coworkers to join us as we learn and grow in Christ. These rhythms are great on-ramps for people to engage with your church and to see, hear, and respond to the gospel in their lives. As we move into this next season of ministry, I pray that you will find opportunities to share your rhythms of worship, discipleship, and community with others. Who knows... maybe this season will be the one that changes their eternity. Blessings, Jon |
