The Gift That Keeps Giving

Each Christmas, believers return to the story that has shaped their faith for generations. They read again from Luke 2 and the other gospel accounts. They look back to Isaiah’s prophecy of Emmanuel—God with us—the Christ child born of a virgin, sent for the redemption of mankind. These Scriptures remind the church that Christmas is rooted in the greatest act of generosity the world has ever known.

This season naturally stirs a spirit of giving. While holiday sales, gift exchanges, Giving Tuesday campaigns, and a steady stream of advertising often fill the landscape, something deeper moves within the hearts of God’s people. The impulse to give is ultimately tied to the heart and character of God Himself.

John 3:16 reveals perfect generosity: “God so loved the world that He gave…” His giving flowed from love, and His gift—His one and only Son—was unlike any other. Through Jesus, God offered the world salvation, hope, and everlasting life. If God placed eternity in the human heart, then it is no surprise that giving—sacrificial, joyful, love-driven giving—feels so meaningful.

This truth directly connects to the life of the local church.

The ongoing ministry of a church is sustained through the faithful generosity of God’s people. When individuals give, they are not merely supporting operations—they are investing in eternity. Their gifts help create opportunities for the gospel to be preached, for families to be discipled, for children and students to grow in faith, for mission partners to be encouraged, and for those far from God to encounter the hope of Jesus.

Year-end generosity plays a significant role in strengthening the church today and planting seeds for the future. A single gift given in obedience this Christmas may impact someone’s eternity in the coming year.

As the Christmas season unfolds, and as gifts are exchanged and God’s goodness is celebrated, believers are encouraged to give generously to the work of their local church. Every gift matters, and God multiplies each act of obedience in ways far beyond what can be seen.

May this Christmas season be filled with joy, peace, and the blessing that comes from giving as God has first given.

Celebrating Our Pastor of the Week: Pastor Chris Jones

The San Felipe Baptist Association is delighted to honor Pastor Chris Jones as this week’s Pastor of the Week. Chris has faithfully served in several churches within our Association—including his meaningful ministry at Great Oaks Baptist Church—and now serves as the Lead Pastor of Faith Fellowship Church of Fort Bend. His leadership, compassion, and genuine love for people continue to make a profound impact on the churches and communities he serves.

Pastor Chris is a man whose life clearly reflects his deepest convictions. He loves God, loves people, and firmly believes that this calling rests on all humanity. One of his greatest passions is helping others see that the gospel of Jesus is not just good news—it is universe-changing news. Chris is driven by a desire to preach and teach the gospel with clarity and joy, and to obey the Great Commission by making disciples both individually and collectively.

Those who know Chris quickly discover that he is not only a devoted pastor but also a loving husband and father. His warmth extends beyond the pulpit, often expressed through simple acts of hospitality—like the incredible cup of coffee he crafts for friends and guests. It’s fitting, because Chris is truly one of the most welcoming and relational people you will ever meet.

He is also a lifelong learner, currently pursuing theological studies not for titles or recognition, but to grow as a pastor, teacher, and follower of Christ. His love for theology is rooted in his love for Jesus and his desire to shepherd God’s people with wisdom and faithfulness.

Pastor Chris loves the local church deeply, and his heart beats for people to know Christ and to worship Him forever. We joyfully celebrate his ministry, his leadership, and the many ways God continues to use him for His glory. Congratulations, Pastor Chris!
