Better TogetherReclaiming the Power of Local Associational Cooperation - Thursday, October 8, 2026 No local church is designed to stand as an isolated island. While every local church is autonomous, history and Scripture remind us that we accomplish far more when we link arms. As pastor Matt Henslee notes on Southern Baptist cooperation, "cooperation necessitates participation"—we are quite simply better together.
For many churches, the local Baptist association has historically felt like little more than a directory for pulpit supply or a calendar of fellowship meals. Yet, when associations pivot from running top-down denominational programs to actively resourcing the local church, they become indispensable partners in the Great Commission.
This vital distinction lies at the heart of the San Felipe Baptist Association (SFBA). SFBA operates on a clear, foundational mission: to serve, support, and resource the gospel impact of the local church. The association does not exist to be served by churches; rather, it exists to strengthen churches so they can fulfill their unique, God-given callings.
When local congregations actively participate in the association, SFBA’s three-fold vision comes into sharp focus:
True cooperation is never automatic; it requires intentional presence and shared effort. By stepping beyond the four walls of your sanctuary and linking arms with SFBA, your church helps build a resilient, collaborative network where every congregation is equipped to thrive and make an enduring Kingdom impact.

Did You Know?Your Church Can Discover and Reach the Nations in Your Neighborhood - Thursday, October 8, 2026 Does your church reflect the community right outside its doors? One of the greatest blessings of the local church is its strategic placement as a foothold for the gospel. In Isaiah 49:6, God declares, "It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant... I will also make You a light of the nations so that My salvation may reach to the end of the earth."
Gone are the days when reaching the nations required crossing an ocean. Today, the nations are right here in our neighborhoods. Within two school districts in the San Felipe Baptist Association (SFBA), students speak more than 90 languages, and the Greater Houston area boasts over 200 distinct people groups.
As demographics shift, local churches have a unique opportunity to reach across cultures with the life-changing truth of Jesus—the good news of His death and resurrection that unites believers of every tribe and tongue.
How SFBA Can Help
