Partnering Together for Impactful Children’s Ministry

Children’s ministry leaders, we want to connect with you! Raising the next generation of church leaders starts right here, and the San Felipe Baptist Association (SFBA) is building a network to support and encourage you.

Mark your calendars for the Lifeway VBS Preview on January 15–16, 2027, at Champion Forest Baptist Church. This two-day event showcases curriculum, supplies, and decorations—plus opportunities to preorder at a discount. By coordinating schedules and sharing resources, member churches can stretch their budgets and ensure every church has the opportunity to host VBS.

We are currently forming regional cohorts and selecting  Regional Catalysts to lead collaborative ministry efforts. Please register today so we can connect, steward resources well, and work together to reach the lost and revitalize our churches! We are looking to connect with whoever is in charge of your children's ministry so we can build relationships committed to equiping and encouraging children's minsitry leaders to make the greatst gospel impact they can in your church and community.

IMPORTANT UPDATE!

The Clergy Act

The recently signed Clergy Act introduces a critical financial opportunity for ministers across the nation.Traditionally, ordained pastors have been permitted to opt out of Social Security due to their unique "dual tax status". However, doing so means forfeiting vital safety nets, including retirement pay, disability coverage, subsidized Medicare at age 65, and survivor benefits for family members.

According to GuideStone®, the new legislation opens a special two-year window beginning in 2029 that allows ministers who previously opted out to elect future participation in the program. Because a re-election window has not been available for several decades, this serves as a rare chance for pastors to revisit decisions often made early in their careers.

"GuideStone has long believed that Social Security provides an important foundation of protection," noted GuideStone President Hance Dilbeck. "For many ministers and their families, electing future participation...may strengthen their long-term financial security and resilience."

While every pastor's financial situation is unique, Social Security can form an essential pillar for retirement planning. GuideStone is preparing objective resources, key dates, and educational materials to help church leaders evaluate their options before the 2029 election period begins. Did you know that local Baptist associations have deep historical roots right in our backyard?

Did you know that local Baptist associations have deep historical roots right in our backyard?

The San Felipe Baptist Association (SFBA) carries a name packed with spiritual and historical significance. Named after the acting Mexican Governor of Texas in 1836, San Felipe served as the headquarters for Stephen F. Austin’s colony. It was also the birthplace of Texas’s very first Sunday School, established by Thomas J. Pilgram in 1829, alongside the Texas Gazette newspaper that same year.

SFBA officially began its journey on October 21, 1948, when 39 messengers and pastors gathered at Katy Baptist Church to form the association. Representatives came from 13 local churches and missions—including Prairie Home, Beasley, Wallis, Orchard, Rosenberg, Sugar Land, Missouri City, Sealy, Bellville, Harris Creek, Stafford, and Addicks.

For decades, SFBA churches have helped shape the development of local towns while maintaining a strong commitment to Christ’s work locally and worldwide. Through cooperative fellowship, these local congregations continue a legacy of faith and community impact that spans nearly a century.
