Cultivating Fertile Ground

Cultivating Fertile Ground

Looking Ahead to Vision 50x’50

If you have driven through the open stretches of West Houston recently, you know the landscape is rapidly transforming. What was once predominantly sprawling farmland—fertile ground that has nourished physical harvests for generations—is quickly becoming one of the most vibrant growth corridors in Texas. Over the next 25 years, our population in the areas west of the Grand Parkway is projected to nearly double. With new neighborhoods, roads, and schools comes a vital question: Who will shepherd the spiritual future of these communities?

At the San Felipe Baptist Association, we believe this season of expansion is a tremendous, God-given opportunity. We are leaning into this growth with deep gratitude, warm optimism, and a refined focus on what matters most: shaping the spiritual temperature of undeveloped West Houston with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

To meet this moment, we are embracing a nimble, agile operating model that allows us to move fluidly alongside our growing communities. As a clear sign of this transition, this past month we successfully sold our physical office building and property. Instead of tying resources to bricks and mortar, we are placing those funds into a biblically responsible investment strategy. By freeing up overhead and reinvesting our assets into kingdom work, we are establishing a sustainable financial foundation designed to serve for decades to come.

This shift directly fuels a bold endeavor: Vision 50x’50.

Vision 50x’50 is our collaborative initiative to plant 50 new, gospel-centered churches across West Houston by the year 2050. We know that no single congregation can carry the spiritual weight of a doubling population on its own. As author Dave Harvey wisely noted, "Churches don’t plant churches—partnerships do." To be fair, we still belive churches plant churches ( actually God plants churches...) but our goal is to create a stronger partnership between local churches to more effectively respond to population growth through more intentional and collabortive church planting strategies.

Through our Church Planting Cohort, we are actively developing a comprehensive recruiting, training, and leadership development strategy to help us accomplish this vision. By surrounding planters with deep relational care, intentional residency training, and strong sending-church partnerships, we are ensuring that no leader walks this journey alone. Furthermore, strategic alliances with trusted denominational partners and regional network associations allow us to broaden our reach, combine resources, and multiply our collective impact across undeveloped West Houston.

Luke 1:37 reminds us, "For nothing will be impossible with God." Planting 50 churches is an ambitious, God-sized goal, but it gives us a clear framework, direct accountability, and a shared passion to reach every new family moving into our area.

The fields of West Houston remain deeply fertile, and the spiritual harvest ahead is plentiful. As we step into this new, mobile chapter, we invite you to pray with us, partner with us, and dream big for what God will accomplish in our communities over the coming decades. Together, we give, send, plant, and trust Him for the future.
