Embracing Change with HopeWe’ve all heard the old joke: How many Baptists does it take to change a lightbulb?
The chairman of the deacons stands up and says, "Change? We don't talk about that in these business meetings!"
We laugh because it’s familiar. In church life, our deep commitment to tradition can sometimes make us hesitant to embrace anything new. Yet, change is one of the few constants in life. Weather patterns, economic cycles, leadership, worship styles, and Sunday School curricula change with predictable regularity.
Thankfully, the most important things never change. We stand on the unshakeable foundation of God’s steadfast love, His unchanging goodness, and the eternal truth of mankind’s need for salvation through Jesus Christ. Because our core gospel message is securely fixed, we can approach external changes with confidence rather than fear.
Understanding Change vs. TransitionIf we are honest, our anxiety around change usually isn't about the final outcome; it's about the journey to get there.
In his book, Leading Major Change in Your Ministry, SBC Executive Committee President Dr. Jeff Iorg highlights a vital distinction between change and transition. Change is the decision itself—a choice made to help the church better fulfill its mission. Transition, however, is the actual process of moving from what was to what will be.
Making a decision can happen in a moment, but navigating the transition takes time, intentionality, and grace. When churches struggle, it is rarely because the decision was wrong; it is usually because the transition plan lacked clarity or care.

SFBA Master Policy Insurance InquirySFBA is investigated the possibility of a Master Insurance Policy for SFBA churches.We will need a minimum of 15 churches to move forward in this process. We will answera. few general questions and consider what our next steps could be if the interest meets our threshold requirements. Likewise, we will look at some other FAQ's and see if we can take some next steps to help individual churches look into new plans OR see if we want to move forward with a Master Policy through the Association. What We Need & Next StepsTo qualify for this program, we need at least 15 participating churches.
