Back-to-school season is just around the corner, bringing a wonderful opportunity for you and your church to bless local students and teachers.

Every year, dedicated teachers return to their classrooms to invest deeply in young lives. To create a positive, welcoming learning environment, many of them have to get creative to stretch limited budgets. In fact, teachers frequently spend their own money just to ensure that basic necessities—like pencils, glue, paper, and tissues—are available for every single student.

At the same time, every school district throughout the San Felipe Baptist Association is filled with families who find it difficult to procure the basic items needed for a successful start to the school year.

You and your church can make a massive difference. Here are a few practical ways you can help:

1. Be a "Secret Shopper"

The next time you are out running errands during the back-to-school sales, consider picking up extra school supplies. You can donate these directly to a local classroom, or better yet, quietly purchase items for a family you see shopping in the store. Simply let them know you want them to be blessed and to know that the Lord loves them. You never know—a simple act of generosity might be the exact invitation they need to visit your church.

2. Clear the Amazon Wish Lists

Many educators turn to the internet to stock their classrooms. Take a look at local school websites and Facebook pages to see if teachers in your district have posted Amazon Wish Lists. You can also check within your own congregation—if you have teachers in your church with active lists, promote them on your church's media pages so members can purchase items directly.

3. Adopt a Classroom or Grade Level

This is a fantastic project for a small group, a Sunday school class, or the entire congregation. Your group could commit to a supply drive specifically for the 3rd-grade classes at a local elementary school. Alternatively, the whole church could buy 4 or 5 high-need items in bulk. If your church hosts a "Back to School Bash," use it as a supply drive to connect directly with a neighboring school.

4. Stock the Teachers' Lounge

Show the faculty some love right out of the gate! Host a snack drive (Little Debbie cakes are always a hit!) to build gift baskets for the staff. Fill the baskets with snacks and warm, handwritten notes of encouragement, and leave them in the teachers' lounge on the very first day of school.

Bonus Idea: Host a Prayer Walk

Some schools provide opportunities for community members to pray over their campus. Contact your local schools to see if a group from your church can spend a Saturday morning walking the hallways and playgrounds. Use this time to pray for the safety and hearts of the students, strength for their families, wisdom for the staff, and for all that God wants to do in the coming year.

Whatever plan you choose, take advantage of this seasonal opportunity to bless your schools, pray for teachers, and make a tangible impact in your community.

Churches that actively engage with their communities often find that future opportunities for ministry and outreach come much easier. Why? Because you have built a lasting reputation as a loving, caring, and generous church.
