Stay Activated!Sage wisdom from a 9 year old boy. There is something truly electric about gathering with 1,000 community leaders in the heart of downtown Houston to lift our city in prayer. This past week, the Greater Houston Prayer Breakfast did just that, honoring the first responders, faith leaders, and the world-class healers at the Texas Medical Center who keep our city running. But amidst the suits and ceremonies, it was two stories of radical redemption that stole the show—and offered us a gentle, yet firm, wake-up call. A Nine-Year-Old’s Battle CryThe room fell silent as nine-year-old Fitz Davis took the stage. Fitz recently faced a rare liver cancer diagnosis, undergoing a transplant right here in our medical center. Standing before a sea of influential officials, this young warrior prayed a prayer so filled with humility and hope that there wasn't a dry eye in the house. His message to us? Two simple words: “Stay Activated.” Fitz has faced trials most of us will never encounter, yet his resolve to remain "activated" in his faith is a convicting reminder. For the believer, being activated means being a constant ambassador for Christ, regardless of the circumstances. It’s easy to be "on" when life is smooth, but Fitz challenges us to remain ready to give an answer for our hope, even when the path is steep. You can follow his incredible journey on his mom’s Facebook page. The Question That Changed EverythingThe theme of activation continued with Art Medina, the keynote speaker introduced by retired DA Investigator A.P. Merillat. Years ago, Medina was serving a 119-year sentence and was considered one of the most violent inmates in Texas. During a routine interrogation, Merillat went off-script and asked one question: “Do you believe in God?” When Medina said yes, Merillat simply replied, “Then get to know Him.” That moment of "activation" by an investigator led Medina to a Bible in solitary confinement. Years later, he told a parole board, “I repented,” and his life was transformed. Today, he is a CEO helping former felons find a second chance. You can see his full story in the documentary Man Alone. The Cautionary TailgateIt’s easy to leave an event like this feeling "inspired," but here is the cautionary truth: Inspiration without action is just a warm feeling. We serve a God of second chances and miraculous healing, but He often uses us as the catalysts. When was the last time you asked a "bold" question or shared your story of redemption? Whether you are facing a trial like Fitz or a crossroads like Merillat, don’t let your faith go into "power-save" mode. Stay Activated. Someone is waiting to hear the gospel. |

If there is something in the office that your church could use, please come and get it. NO DIBS. First come, first serve. At some point we will dispose of whatever remains.
